The Criteria for Deciding When to Use Video Marketing

Macaela VanderMost was my guest on episode #42 of Leading Matters ( a great episode on creativity, story and video marketing).  There was one minute that is a must listen.  In it Macaela lays out the criteria that we should use when we consider video marketing.  The brief one minute of audio is below or you can read what Macaela had to say just after the audio clip.

If you are just darling in video always ask yourself why you are making a video.  Is there a story here? Because if should be an infographic or an article don’t make a video.  If it is just going to be a talking headvideo-marketing that should probably be a blog posting.  Unless there is something interesting about that talking head.

So when you think about story, ‘is there a story here?’ ok, check, yes. Then the next thing that you need to think a out is, is this a visual story? Because I think the problem that a lot of clients get into is that their story is not visual and so it ends  up being just a really boring talking head and you have to ask yourself why is it that I’m making a video.

And if you do decide that for whatever reason that it should be a video then you need to find a way to make it visual. Because if is not visual it is going to be boring.
