Leading Matters #27 Ryan Hawk Host The Learning Leader

Episode 27 of Leading Matters features Ryan Hawk host of The Learning Leader Show.  Ryan’s popular podcast is a series of interviews with successful leaders from all walks of life.  He created the show not only to learn but, more importantly, to share what he learns with as many people as he can.

In ’16 I’ve really been trying to mix it up as much as possible to bring more thought and ideas your way that will help you improve how you lead.  Thought provoking perspective that will challenge you, and inspire you to consider some aspect of your career, or company from a completely new perspective.  This is why I was thrilled to have Ryan Hawk accept my invitation to be a guest on the show to share a little bit about his own podcast, The Learning Leader Show.

In my chat with Ryan he shared some great insight about what he has learned fromryan-hawk-host-The-learning-leader-show speaking to over 100 different leaders, and how we as individuals can apply those lessons to our own lives.  Ryan’s passion is infectious, and he is committed to introducing as many leaders to as many people as possible.

As always you’re going to love the 25 minutes or so with Ryan – be sure to check out his show as well.  I am certain that you’ll end up binging on The Learning Leader Show and be glad that you did.

HIGHLIGHTS

Curiosity is Fuel

Ryan set out to create a podcast on leadership because he was curious as to what drove some of today’s most successful people.  He believes that most of us have that curiosity in us and that it should fuel a lifelong journey of discovery and learning.

The Common Characteristics of Leaders

Having interviewed nearly 100 leaders from all walks of life Ryan shares that the most commonly shared traits are; optimism, a tireless drive, selflessness, and serious commitment to relationship building.

Humility Driven by a Desire to Serve

Another trait that stands out above others is humility.  These leaders all carry a quiet confidence that doesn’t come across as arrogance.  They seek to be transparent, to serve, and genuinely enjoy giving simply for the opportunity to benefit those they serve.

The Lessons are Applicable to All

Ryan believes that the lessons he has learned from his guests are applicable to anyone in just about any area of their lives.  Even if we are leading a tribe of only one, ourselves.

The Responsibility to Help Make Our Team Better

It isn’t only Spider-Man who needs to know that with great power comes  great responsibility.  Leaders of all types have to have an understanding that they must place their team ahead of themselves.  Invert their organization structure so they understand well that it is the leader that works for the team, and not the team that works for the leader.
