Leading Matters #48 Tayo Rockson

Tayo Rockson is on Leading Matters! A young man dedicating his career to inspire people to be curious about the cultural differences that they run into every day. To educate the world about them and the beauty in all so that we can work together to improve our global identities.

Man WHAT AN EPISODE. This conversation with Tayo is such a treat to have this at this time of year when we typically look both behind us to see where we have been and ahead to see where we are headed. I cannot thank David Ralph enough for introducing me to Tayo, and Tayo for coming on the show. You are absolutely going to love it. Don’t bother reading the highlights just jump right in. It will inspire you, make you think, and give you desire to head into 2017 with a commitment to become more intellectually curious.

Of course if you want the highlights here they are

A Minority Everywhere He Went
Tayo’s father is a diplomat, and for Tayo, this meant never hanging around too long in one place. With atayo-rockson feeling of being a minority no matter where he called home at the moment Tayo discovered early in his life that the way to connect with those not ‘like you’ is to ask sincere questions.

The Economy Gets Global Yet We Stay Local
Globalization is happening yet cultures today seem to be working harder than ever to isolate themselves, to keep change at arm’s length. This makes Tayo wonder if we are equipped to deal with the cultural impact that globalization brings and to work to do his part to help the people he works with better adapt.

Media Feeds Us WhatWe Like And Entertains first
Tayo discusses the ‘Buzzfeed-ification’ of the media, and how the reality of being served up only that which we like or want to read keeps is isolated. The news is good, but too often is seeks to entertain first and inform second. We have to understand that and seek for that which truly informs.

Truth Justice and the American Way
What unites all cultures across the United States is a desire for an honest crack at opportunity.
